My husband and I were being responsible adults and going though our budget recently. This entailed a lot of back and forth over what subscriptions we really wanted to keep, and what we might want to think about finally quitting so we can stop paying for something we are not using. Well, my writing website came up. Did you know it actually costs to have a Squarespace account? It does. It costs. There is a price tag attached to it, and it is not a little one.
The question then becomes, do I still want to keep the site? To keep, or not to keep, in the paraphrased words of whats-his-name. Then, if I do keep it and am paying for it (and full disclosure-this is more than just a few cups of coffee), will I actually use it?
Looking back at the past couple of years, the answer is a resounding “no.” Seriously, where did 2025 go? And 2024 before that? Not to mention 2023? And before that 2022? My last blog post was 2021. Yikes. Sorry, finance people. My fiscal irresponsibility is showing.
What happened in those past few years, you might ask? In 2021 we made the (incredibly hard but blessed) decision to move to a different state. In 2022 we made it happen. Hello, I am now a Texan (I know, I cannot believe it either), and we love it here. In 2023 we settled in and started to make connections. In 2024 I finished my Master’s Degree. Which brings us to 2025, which also passed in a blur, and here we are at the beginning of 2026, contemplating renewing my Squarespace subscription again with the actual hope that I will use it. Will I go back to writing fun and entertaining posts about life?
I ultimately decided not to renew, and just transferred all those stories to here, Blogspot. For now, it is a holding place, and I can add to it if I see fit.
